I write folk-tinged acoustic songs and perform them on guitar. Some are lyrical ruminations on historical events around my home county of Worcestershire (UK), some lyrical ruminations on other things! Either way they are kind of lyrical and ruminatory probably. It’s fair to say I love words (see books) but never at the expense of music. For me the words and melody and chords etc come out as one. You have to tease them out. It’s like lots of rags tied together, all different colours and textures. Some are kind of beautiful but others are dirty, frayed or blood-soaked. You keep pulling and more come out, and you have to make sense of them without losing what they are. I’m not as pretentious as that in real life, honest. (Am I?)
My songs have featured on BBC Introducing and Invisible Folk Radio. You can the produced ones on all the usual streaming platforms like Bandcamp, Spotify and SoundCloud, but nearly all I demo live and post up on YouTube, so if you subscribe there you will see them as they arrive, in raw form. Even the frayed and blood-soaked ones! Just kidding about the blood, but yeah some of my T-shirts are getting a bit frayed.
Check the gigs page for news of any performances I am doing. I can also be found occasionally at the open mics around Worcester. If you are interested in having me perform, drop me a line.
