Silver Screen

six foot deep in a silver screen
only one thing that she can mean
all these secrets never told
better shore up against this cold

pretty soon things will come undone
despite the bounty we have won
i’d pray if you would let me kneel
there’s always something time can’t heal

two looks up from a coffee cup
don’t trust those who wish you luck
gonna write down what’s in my head
or maybe I’ll speak the truth instead

never cling to what has been blessed
it is a chill wind from the west
i’m tired of things that you been told
i guess I’ll lose what I can’t hold

ten shots down and my sorrow drowns
all these secrets I have found
better keep sharp cos they took my sword
kill these memories I hoard

gonna keep on cos I’m moving on
out to the truth that is hard-won
i tried to tell you life ain’t old
we shed our skin we find our gold

but you’re six foot deep in a silver screen
